Best of both worlds: Benefits of the integration
The asset tracking solution, a combination of Abeeway’s hardware and Favendo’s positioning system, offers a variety of benefits to Favendo’s clientele. Existing use cases include the tracking of medical assets (equipment and people) in healthcare facilities as well as asset tracking, positioning and navigation in complex industrial environments such as production & logistical facilities, large-scale retail, maritime and, even, remote open-pit mining operations.
Abeeway devices are multi-mode trackers and can receive signals from different positioning technologies such as GPS, Low-power GPS, WiFi Sniffing, BLE and LoRaWAN TDoA. When combined with Favendo’s solutions, both assets and people can be tracked indoors and outdoors with a single tag, as the tracker automatically adapts to the environment by choosing the best location technology to run on its present situation.
How the integration works
The combination of the two location technologies enables the use of battery-powered beacons as anchors instead of wired gateways. Abeeway trackers scan these beacons and send the signals to Favendo’s Commander Location Engine via LoRaWAN. The combination of Abeeway’s accurate and durable devices with BLE beacons makes the solution, not only, easy to install and service, but also cost-effective in most use cases.
Long-term experience and a broad portfolio of technologies is key
Selecting the right positioning technology and related infrastructure for an RTLS project is a complex decision. For Favendo, who have proven expertise in the fields of positioning, tracking and navigation solutions, the crucial question is what our customers want to achieve with the installation of a RTLS solution. If a client’s use case requires many objects to be tracked in a small area, a different technology is required than a case wherein only a few objects are to be tracked in a large area. When choosing the right location technology, it is necessary to consider the latency of the signals. For example, when tracking vehicles or inventory in a warehouse, a latency of 60 – 90 seconds is normally adequate. Whereas when tracking constantly mobile assets, take children on a cruise ship, a real-time solution with only a few seconds would be required.
