Wayfinding and Indoor GPS/Navigation: Favendo’s Advanced Location-based Services with Beacons and VLC enable turn-by-turn navigation indoors with centimetre accuracy.
Wayfinding guides and navigates visitors and employees within shopping malls, shops, airports or train stations using a smart device. The route to a specific point is displayed on the screen or announced by the output device.
Wayfinding and indoor navigation by Favendo achieves a positioning accuracy of less than 50 centimeters. This means that with us you can take a customer not only to a specific department, but to a specific product on the shelf. Our customers include Audi, Hammerson, ECE & FRAPORT. Our technology is in daily use on over 1.5 million square meters of sales area.
What technology do we use?
We specialise in positioning and navigation via beacon and lighting technology. Depending on the industry and field of application, we use different technologies or a combination of several technologies. Do I need an app?
Yes, you need an app. If you already have an app, all services can be integrated quickly and easily via SDK and used by your customers immediately after an update. An SDK (Software Development Kit) is a ready-made program code that can be integrated into your existing app. If you don’t have an app yet, we can provide you with a state-of-the-art application for Android and iOS based on our white label app in no time. Numerous technologies compete for supremacy
While the current satellite navigation systems for outdoor use usually consist of a GPS receiver combined with electronically stored or online available maps, a large number of technologies and systems in different combinations currently compete for supremacy in the field of wayfinding.
Beacons are ideal
Beacons are signal transmitters that send signals at short intervals and use the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) radio standard to transmit these signals. Their range is between 30 and 100 meters, ideal for functioning wayfinding. We develop and produce our beacons in Germany. Our products and solutions therefore comply with the strictest German data protection and security guidelines and the international SITA standard.
Due to the specific disadvantages of competing technologies and systems, however, it can be assumed that Beacon technology will continue to establish itself as the standard for wayfinding, as it is capable of conveying a user experience like an indoor GPS. The end user needs a smart device with the corresponding application and activated Bluetooth within a beacon infrastructure.

the majority of potential users already have one of the components required for indoor navigation and even use it very frequently.
Visual Light Communication
Lighting technology/Visual Light Communication (VLC) and the indoor positioning system (IPS) based on it allow even more precise positioning and navigation. The positioning accuracy is approx. 30 centimetres and meets the requirements of product-specific navigation in food retailing. This accuracy is purchased with the disadvantage that the smartphone must always have “visual contact” with the light source. By combining this with Beacon technology, this disadvantage can be eliminated and the positioning accuracy can be maintained. Together with Philips Lighting, we have successfully implemented this combination in Germany. In many areas and industries, however, such high accuracy is not necessary.
